FINAL RELEASE

As I didn’t receive any news from anybody, I made a final release containing minor updates.

Two months ago, Jamie Costa (friend and voice actor from the US) sent me a huge list of recorded voice audios imitating Rick Deckard. It surely brings more realism to the experience and he made so many takes that I couldn’t ignore his work. Thank you very much James! 😉

You can now download the experience (1.002) from my Google Drive, right here:

Thanks Quentin. I’ve been following this project for a long time, and after all the problems you had about those “infringements”, i really appreciate that you still made an effort to update this project, even a little bit, and add a little bit more magic from the movie. Hope you still continue working in this project, because every little thing you add always makes it a little bit more special. I think you are one of the best modellers and artists around, and i wish you all the luck in all your future projects. After all you’ve done, you deserve no less.

    admin - April 27, 2018 reply

Thank you very much Andrew. Your kind words are really appreciated… even if I’m not really a 3D artist 🙂
I always did 3D modeling/texturing for fun but I’m very glad you like it.

  • David - April 29, 2018 reply

Thanks Quentin. Your project is a great idea, me too I’ve been curious about this project for years.
I’m an old fan of cyberpunk movies and the atmosphere we feel by watching them…

    Morgan - May 6, 2018 reply

Hi David , have you read William Gibson? i highly recommend it./

  • Morgan - May 6, 2018 reply

Awesome work. Thankyou for bringing this to life. I am very in love with all things Bladerunner

  • Miguel - May 14, 2018 reply

Hi. Today I discovered his work and I do not think I can convey all the gratitude I feel to see and play his work on Blade Runner. I was one of the first people who did not know much where he was going to see the film premiere of Blade Runner in a gigantic cinema of those times in Gran Via in Madrid (Spain) and from that moment I already hooked the theme, the music the characters Vangelis music … etc. total fan of Blade Runner …
Today seeing his work working on my computer and with the HTC glasses is as if I had reached the future of the film and at any moment I get the feeling that I’m going to see Rachel or Deckard or Roy etc.
Thank you very much for your work. I’m happy. A greeting from Spain.

    admin - May 19, 2018 reply

    Muchas gracias Miguel! 🙂

  • Thierry - May 17, 2018 reply

Wonderful project, thank you so much! I’m very impressed by your work, the love you’ve put in all details. You’re a very talented artist, hope to so more updates in the future 😉

    admin - May 19, 2018 reply

    Thank you Thierry.

  • Dillon - May 31, 2018 reply

Quentin. If I were in your shoes, then surely a heart attack would have taken my by now. To pour your heart and soul into the project — and it shows — and to have it dismissed in the court of Dusty Dispassionate Dweebs Lawyers is a maddening and unfair travesty. Thank goodness you can still release the executable, just not through Steam. I was in my address bar, typed, “B”, and BR9732.com auto-completed. It auto-completed because I had the nasty habit of checking for an update *every single day* since you announced this on the Oculus subreddit years ago. I am pleased to see one more update!

I think I’ve told you this before, but I cancelled my own atmospheric BR apartment project for VR when I saw said post because yours had eclipsed mine from the get-go, and I can tell you nothing of value was lost, because I love what you’ve put together.

After truly learning to love the movie and the world is created when I first watched only 11 years ago, I spent years trying to model it in various capacities, but this is the dream project, the end-game for living in that world through whatever means we can in 2018.

You’re extremely talented, as I’m sure you’ve been told in these comments sections over the years, and should the circumstances of life afford you the time, please keep plugging away at projects like this. I’d love to see what other locations and worlds you can offer us an immersive slice of in VR.

    Hi Dillon,
Thank you very much for your dedicated interest in my work. It’s really appreciated. Seeing one user happy worth much more than anything to me.
I don’t know what will be the next experience yet but I still need some time to digest this unfair takedown.
Personal projects are very important to me, so I’ll come back! 🙂

  • Roberto - August 30, 2018 reply

Dear Quentin, thank you! I´m usually etc etc and not the type who etc etc 🙂 But I needed to simply say: Thank you.
(Everything else had been said before, one way or another)

    PS
Write to Amazon. Tell them, you make on every cardbox their logo, if they finance (and legally secure) the further development of the project! Who knows – maybe Jeff Bezos likes BR just as much as The Expanse?

    admin - September 15, 2018 reply

lol thanks Roberto. But I’m sick to ask something on this subject 🙂

  • Jake - September 3, 2018 reply

What a shame how such an amazing game with unlimited potential had to be ruined by a stupid copyright strike, a true work of art.

  • Simon - September 6, 2018 reply

Thanks you man, it’s amazing work!

  • Richard - October 14, 2018 reply

Thanks for this. If had endless cash, I would contract you to build a fully fledged game.
    Crowdfund maybe?

    Richard - October 14, 2018 reply

Maybe ask Elon Musk, he loves Blade Runner!

  • Brec Miller - October 29, 2018 reply

Quentin. You have brought so much magic to so many of our lives. Thank you brother man, its everything I ever dreamed it would be.

  • Hristo - November 11, 2018 reply

Alright, so I came VERY late to the party, but BOY is that mighty impressive! I work with VR and UE4 and know for a darn fact that creating something like that requires a solid set of skills and a ton of free time on your hand. Your work is hands down one of the most impressive things I’ve seen in a long while, I hope I see more projects from you and I hope some outstanding gaming studio can put your skills into good use.

    admin - November 11, 2018 reply

    Thank you very much Hristo.

  • Stuart McCrae - November 26, 2018 reply

I would just like to say Thanks Quentin, this was one of my very first experences in VR and as a massive BR fan one of the best, I’ve never been closer to that BR feeling than through this and for that I can’t thank you enough, I just wanted you to know it’s had that much of an impact, if it’s ever crowd funded I want you to know I’ll be 100% behind it in future developments or any other way I can help, now I must go, I’ve just poured a drink and I’m heading off to the balcony to soak it all up!

  • Neziritch - December 8, 2018 reply

This is what I have been looking for. I was hoping someone with skills I didn’t possess would bring at least a small piece of the Blade Runner universe to live in VR and this did not disappoint. I have no idea how many times I’ve wandered around Deckard’s apartment and its exactly as I had imagined it. Thank you for realizing this project and following it through. If you do decide to crowd fun a future project of similar nature I would also be 100% behind it.

  • jeff courtney - January 1, 2019 reply

Great job and sorry it got tooken down from steam and viveport.Very glad its available here.Hoipe you continue to add more with updates.Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior.Jesus Christ saved my life and soul.

  • ReverendTed - January 27, 2019 reply

    First off, great work!
I have an Oculus Rift (CV1 with Touch controllers). I also have SteamVR installed.
For what it’s worth, when I started the executable, it reported detecting OpenVR and I was able to run it in VR mode on my Oculus Rift. I could see my Touch controllers in-game and pressing the B or Y buttons brought up the Help menu that described the functions of the buttons.
Pretty sure it was through Steam somehow, because I got some Steam notifications while I was playing, and it loaded a partially-functional Steam menu when I pressed the Menu button.
My only real gripes were the inability to snap rotate (orientation was fixed and the only way to turn was to physically turn my body), the strange way that I would sometimes warp to a point and sometimes walk to a point (which appears to a Touch vs Vive thing), and the persistent Deckard soundclips over and over…and over. (I found your blaster, Rick, you can stop mumbling to yourself about it.)

  • John Kelly - April 8, 2019 reply

Just wanted to say thanks for this. I’m sorry about the way things turned out, but it’s an incredible piece of work, and the closest I think I’m going to get to standing on that balcony! Good luck in all you do.

  • Jody - April 19, 2019 reply

Thanks for making this. I still have it on my Steam but did not know you made a downloadable update until now. Every BR fan I put in this in VR is just completely blown away.

  • Rallens - June 9, 2019 reply

I’ve kept your original copy on steam ever since those idiots pulled it down and refused to uninstall it. I kinda checked up on you to see how your doing. I hope things are doing well.

  • Anthony - July 3, 2019 reply

Just downloaded this and played it. Love it dude, good work!

  • Hristo - July 12, 2019 reply

Any news on the possibility to play it on Oculus Rift again? It doesn’t work anymore…

    admin - July 15, 2019 reply

    Hi Hristo,
I’m sorry it doesn’t work anymore for the rift.
Unfortunately there is no planning for this project anymore since I got shutdown from Steam and Youtube 🙁

    ReverendTed - July 30, 2019 reply

FYI: I’m still able to play it fine on my Oculus Rift CV1. I’m starting it through Steam, with SteamVR active, if that matters.

  • Hristo - July 19, 2019 reply

It doesn’t work with Oculus Rift anymore…. I played it and cried in Deckard’s apartment 6 months ago, now – black screen. Nothing is happening…

    Hristo - July 19, 2019 reply

Sorry for the double comment, I got distracted and forgot that I asked here in this forum as well already. There doesn’t seem to be an edit button, so please delete this comment, thanks!

Really love the experience. I’ve been a BR fan for a long time and it’s amazing to finally experience all of the apartment like this.

Is there any way to disable to added Deckard voice acting?

  • Tamas Gereguricz - December 29, 2019 reply

very cool but were is the free locomotion? its a shame devs leave this important feature out. no, i wont get motion sick and if I do, it will be worth it lol.

  • Peter - July 9, 2020 reply

Just curious but is it at all possible to use anything other than a Vive VR HMD for VR ?

  • Omar A Martinez - August 11, 2020 reply

Finally found the file to Download it! Im a huge Blade Runner fan!

  • Rodrigo - August 25, 2020 reply

Such mind-blowing work! The external views are amazing! All the small details are very thoughtful!

  • Clockwork - October 1, 2020 reply

A cyberpunk balcony is all I need. Thanks

  • Clockwork - October 3, 2020 reply

Whenever I try to use that device above the TV, the game crashes. Is it because it wasn’t implemented yet?

  • Sergey - November 25, 2020 reply

Why is there no 2k resolution in the settings? I have a 1440p monitor and the game looks a little soapy on it due to the 1080p limitation.
In this apartment, the atmosphere of cyberpunk is orders of magnitude more than 20 minutes of gameplay of the game Cyberpunk 2077, which looks like a cheap Chinese counterfeit from Aliexpress.

    admin - December 8, 2020 reply

I’m sorry. This is an old personal project… don’t have time to work on it anymore. But glad you liked it 🙂

  • Gorongor - December 31, 2020 reply

    Hey there,
I just wanted to say thank you for having done this. I think I first watched BladeRunner as a teen in the late 80s. It never lost its magic since then. I would never have dared to even dream of experiencing a visit in Deckard’s apartment. Only yesterday I found your site. Luckily I also got my first ever VR headset 3 weeks ago.
I was sitting on Deckard’s couch, even lying on his bed. Time had no meaning anymore. I was there and could feel the presence of the BladeRunner world.
I will be forever thankful for experiencing this. Thanks to you, sir!

  • FrizzleFry - January 5, 2021 reply

I played this on my Rift about 2 years ago. I saw the news they were taking it down so I was smart enough to make a Steam Backup of it. Hopefully I have the latest version, not sure how to check. Anyway, I sold my Rift, and just got a Valve Index. I knew immediately I wanted to see this first. Loaded the backup, worked just fine. I almost busted my ass, started to sit down in the chair in front of the Esper machine.

  • Stephen Brown - January 8, 2021 reply

Blade Runner is one of my favorite Sci Fi Noir movies ever since I saw it back in the 1980’s. It’s people like you that make this world a better place. Thank you so much for this amazing piece of work.

  • yellow yoda - March 24, 2021 reply

is this 100% safe because it said that google cant check for viruses because the file was too big?

  • ReverendTed - April 27, 2021 reply

Just want you to know that there are folks still enjoying this in 2021. I recently watched Adam Savage build a Lego model of the police Spinner and it put me in a mind to play a little Aircar and then load up BR9732 on my Oculus Rift CV1.
    The atmosphere is intoxicating.
Sure, the lack of true smooth locomotion and snap turning is…quaint, by today’s standards, and I did modify some of the sound files so they wouldn’t repeat incessantly, but this remains a terrific demonstration of the transportive potential of VR.

  • Stephen Bell - August 2, 2021 reply

Hi, Quentin, first of all, a huge thank you from this 73-year-old Blade Runner fan! Your artistic, modelling and technical skills are incredible and I am amazed that any “copyright owner” should consider this as anything but an encouragement to buy the videos or other related products.

I have loaded the Windows version of course and noticed a notice in the Devs notes that says “OCULUS READY – 75%”! Therefore, I cannot resist asking, is there any chance that this may come to the Oculus Quest at some point? That would be a dream come true.

  • Tim Suetens - October 29, 2021 reply

I’m a 3D-artist in training, mostly in Blender and UE4/5. One of my pet projects is the faithful digital recreation of a set of a certain series, so I’m very interested in how you made this Blade Runner project. I have questions like:

    – In what software did you make this (Blender, Maya, Max…)?
    – Did you get architectural blueprints of the Deckard’s apartment set, and if so, where/how?
    – The props, did you copy them from the movie, or did you improvise?

Literally anything you can tell me about this project would be helpful. But judging from your prior experience (you certainly look experienced) and the fact BR 9732 took 4+ years to make, maybe I need to adjust my expectations slightly.

  • D - January 22, 2022 reply

    You’ve done a man’s job, sir.
